About This Product
The Outdoor Medium-Duty Member of the Rubber Flexible Cable Family
Medium Duty Rubber Flexible Weather-Resistant Cable is a rubber-insulated, rubber-sheathed flexible multi-core cable for outdoor portable equipment, power tools, gardening machinery, light agricultural equipment, and medium-duty extension cordsets. In the Chinese standard family it is commonly specified as YZW: Y for rubber insulated cable, Z for medium duty, and W for weather-resistant sheath. In European and many export markets, the closest harmonised designation is H05RN-F, a 300/500V neoprene / chloroprene sheathed rubber flexible cable. The IEC family designation is commonly referenced as 60245 IEC 57.
The product sits below heavy-duty YCW / H07RN-F. Both use flexible copper conductors, rubber insulation, and a weather-resistant chloroprene sheath, but YZW is designed for smaller loads, smaller cross-sections, and a 300/500V rating. That makes it more economical and easier to handle for professional tools and outdoor cordsets that do not need the 450/750V rating and larger size range of YCW.
Typical supply covers 2-core, 3-core, 4-core, and 5-core constructions from 0.75 to 6 mm², with smaller multi-core versions available for control wiring where the applicable standard permits. Jinda manufactures this family for global OEMs, distributors, contractors, and cordset producers, with CCC, IEC, EN / HAR-style documentation, sheath printing, colour selection, and packing options matched to the destination market.
Cable Structure
Flexible Copper, Rubber Insulation, and Weather-Resistant Chloroprene Sheath
YZW / H05RN-F uses the same construction logic as the outdoor heavy-duty rubber cable family, but scaled for medium-duty current and voltage. The result is a cable that remains flexible, resists weather better than ordinary PVC cords, and is easier to handle than heavy-duty YCW.

-
1
Conductors — IEC 60228 Class 5 Flexible Copper
Fine-stranded annealed copper conductors provide the flexibility needed for cordsets, portable equipment, and repeated handling. Bare copper is standard; tinned copper can be quoted for humid, marine, or corrosion-prone applications. The conductor class is intended for flexible service, not permanent rigid building wiring.
-
2
Insulation — EPR / Rubber Compound
Rubber insulation gives better flexibility and thermal resilience than ordinary PVC insulation. Core colours are supplied according to the destination market and core count, such as brown, blue, green-yellow, black, and grey for common IEC-style configurations.
-
3
Cabling & Fillers — Round Flexible Assembly
The insulated cores are laid up with rubber-compatible fillers and separator materials to keep a stable round shape. A well-balanced lay improves bending behaviour and reduces internal stress during coiling, uncoiling, and daily site use.
-
4
Outer Sheath — Chloroprene Rubber for Weather Resistance
The W in YZW and the N in H05RN-F both point to the weather-resistant chloroprene / neoprene sheath concept. This sheath gives better resistance to UV, ozone, moisture, light oil exposure, and outdoor ageing than ordinary PVC or non-weather-resistant rubber sheath. Standard sheath colour is black; orange and other colours can be quoted for visibility or OEM branding.
Key Features
Outdoor Durability Without Heavy-Duty Cable Weight
YZW / H05RN-F is chosen when outdoor weather resistance is required, but the application does not need the larger size range and 450/750V rating of YCW / H07RN-F. The six features below define its role in the rubber cable family.
Weather-Resistant Outdoor Sheath
Chloroprene rubber sheath resists sunlight, ozone, moisture, and outdoor ageing better than ordinary PVC cord or indoor rubber cable. This is the main reason to choose YZW instead of YZ or RVV for outdoor power-tool and garden-equipment leads.
Medium-Duty Flexibility
Class 5 conductors and rubber construction make the cable suitable for frequent handling, coiling, uncoiling, and movement of portable equipment. It is easier to carry and route than heavy-duty YCW in comparable small sizes.
300/500V Rating
The normal YZW / H05RN-F rating is 300/500V. It fits many single-phase 230V and light three-phase applications, but heavy distribution feeders or equipment manuals requiring 450/750V should use YCW / H07RN-F instead.
Common Small and Medium Sizes
Typical production covers 0.75, 1.0, 1.5, 2.5, 4, and 6 mm² in 2 to 5 cores. These sizes match power tools, outdoor extension leads, small pumps, light generators, and event final-circuit cordsets.
Better Outdoor Choice Than PVC Cord
For outdoor extension leads and portable equipment, ordinary PVC cords age faster under sunlight, cold, and mechanical abuse. YZW costs more than RVV but provides a more appropriate rubber weather-resistant construction.
Multi-Market Naming
The same product family may be discussed as YZW in China, H05RN-F in Europe, and 60245 IEC 57 in IEC-style specifications. The enquiry should state the required printed marking and certification route so the supplied cable matches the target market.
How to Choose
Six Checks Before Ordering YZW / H05RN-F
The most important decision is whether medium-duty 300/500V is enough. If the cable will be used for heavier industrial loads, larger cross-sections, or tougher site conditions, step up to YCW / H07RN-F.
Confirm 300/500V is sufficient
YZW / H05RN-F is a 300/500V medium-duty cable. It is appropriate for many 230V tools and light portable equipment. If the project requires 450/750V, large current capacity, or heavy-duty construction-site distribution, specify YCW / H07RN-F instead.
Choose weather-resistant YZW over indoor YZ
The W suffix matters. YZW uses a weather-resistant chloroprene sheath for outdoor exposure. YZ is the indoor sibling and should not be selected for regular sunlight, rain, garden equipment, outdoor cordsets, or event-power use.
Select cross-section by load and length
0.75 and 1.0 mm² suit small tools and light equipment; 1.5 mm² is common for 16A class cordsets; 2.5 mm² is selected for longer extension leads or larger loads; 4 and 6 mm² cover the upper end of medium-duty use. Always check voltage drop for long cordsets.
Choose core count by equipment class
2-core cable may be used for double-insulated Class II equipment where no protective earth is required. 3-core cable is common for single-phase equipment with earth. 4-core and 5-core versions are used for small three-phase loads, control circuits, and equipment requiring neutral and protective conductor arrangements.
Specify market marking and certification
For China, specify YZW and the applicable GB/T 5013 / IEC 60245 references. For Europe, specify H05RN-F with the required EN 50525-2-21 and HAR-style documentation. For global OEMs, printed legend can include both model families when the certification route allows it.
Plan packing, length, and OEM printing
Standard distribution packing often uses 100 m or 200 m coils for small sizes. OEM cordset factories may prefer 500 m or 1,000 m drums. Custom sheath printing can include brand name, model, voltage, cross-section, certification marks, and metre marking.
Applications
Where Medium-Duty Weather-Resistant Rubber Cable Performs Best
YZW / H05RN-F is strongest in outdoor and semi-outdoor portable equipment where the load is moderate, the cable is handled regularly, and ordinary PVC cord would not survive well.

Power Tools and Workshop Equipment
Cordsets for drills, saws, angle grinders, jigsaws, planers, routers, and portable workshop equipment used indoors and outdoors. 3-core 1.5 or 2.5 mm² is common for many professional-grade tools.

Gardening and Landscaping Equipment
Electric lawn mowers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, pressure washers, electric chainsaws, and garden maintenance equipment where the cable sees wet grass, sunlight, and regular handling.

Light Agricultural Equipment
Small irrigation pumps, farm workshop tools, feeding equipment, and light-duty agricultural machinery where a weather-resistant rubber cable is useful but heavy-duty YCW would be oversized.

Outdoor Extension Leads and Events
Outdoor extension cordsets, market-stall power, event final circuits, catering equipment leads, and temporary connections from a distribution point to individual light-duty equipment.
Not appropriate for: Heavy industrial feeders, construction-site main distribution, port cranes, large mobile generators, mining equipment, welding leads, direct burial, permanent fixed building wiring, continuous submersion, or applications requiring 450/750V heavy-duty cable. Use YCW / H07RN-F, YH / H01N2-D, MYPT / MCP, YJV / WDZ-YJY, or a waterproof rubber cable family as required.
Technical Data

Frequently Asked Questions
Common Questions About YZW / H05RN-F
Is YZW the same as H05RN-F?
They are broadly equivalent in application: both describe a 300/500V medium-duty rubber flexible cable with a weather-resistant chloroprene / neoprene sheath. YZW is the Chinese model designation; H05RN-F is the European harmonised designation. The supplied cable should still be ordered against the exact standard and marking required by the destination market.
When should I choose YZW instead of YCW?
Choose YZW when 300/500V and the medium-duty size range are sufficient. Choose YCW when the equipment requires 450/750V, larger conductor sizes, heavier mechanical abuse resistance, construction-site distribution, mobile generator output, or heavy industrial service. Using YCW for a small garden-tool cordset can be unnecessary cost and weight; using YZW for a heavy feeder can be unsafe.
Can this cable be used outdoors?
Yes, outdoor use is the reason for choosing the W / RN version. The chloroprene sheath gives weather resistance for outdoor tools, extension leads, garden equipment, and event final circuits. It is still not a substitute for a cable specifically designed for direct burial, continuous submersion, severe crushing, or heavy construction-site distribution.
Is YZW suitable for extension cord reels?
Yes, YZW / H05RN-F is widely used for professional outdoor extension leads and cord reels. The important rule is thermal derating: a cable on a reel cannot dissipate heat like a fully uncoiled cable. At higher loads, fully unwind the cable or follow the cord-reel manufacturer’s coiled and uncoiled current ratings.
Can YZW be printed with an OEM brand?
Yes. OEM sheath printing can include cable model, voltage grade, cross-section, brand name, certification marks, production batch, and metre marking. For tool, garden-equipment, and extension-cord brands, printed YZW / H05RN-F cable helps with identification, warranty control, and brand consistency.
What information should I include in an enquiry?
Please provide model, standard, voltage grade, core count, cross-section, sheath colour, certification requirement, packing length, quantity, and whether OEM printing is needed. A clear enquiry example is: YZW / H05RN-F 3G1.5 mm², 300/500V, black chloroprene sheath, 100 m coils, HAR / EN 50525-2-21 documentation, 30,000 m for outdoor cordsets.
Installation & Handling Tips
Six Practices to Extend YZW / H05RN-F Service Life
Medium-duty rubber cordsets often fail from misuse rather than from the cable compound itself. Good handling protects the conductor strands, sheath, plug ends, and terminations.
Uncoil before high-current use
Coiled cable traps heat. For cord reels and long extension leads, fully unwind the cable before running high-current equipment. If the reel label gives a lower coiled rating, follow that rating.
Use outdoor-rated plugs and glands
The cable is weather-resistant, but the finished cordset also depends on the plug, socket, gland, strain relief, and enclosure rating. Use IP-rated accessories appropriate for damp or outdoor service.
Avoid sharp bends and tight knots
Tight knots and sharp bends fatigue fine copper strands and stress the sheath. Coil the cable with a generous radius, preferably using a figure-8 method for long cordsets.
Protect from vehicle traffic
YZW can tolerate normal site handling, but vehicle tyres, forklifts, and sharp edges can crush or cut it. Use cable ramps, trays, or rerouting wherever a cordset crosses a traffic route.
Inspect plug-end strain points
Many failures begin at the plug or connector entry, where bending and pulling concentrate. Inspect for sheath cracking, exposed conductor, loose glands, heat marks, and damaged plug bodies before use.
Store dry, clean, and off the ground
After outdoor use, wipe mud and water from cordsets and store them coiled loosely on hooks or reels. Long-term storage in standing water, oil, or direct sunlight shortens service life even for weather-resistant rubber cable.
Safety note: Outdoor portable equipment should be protected by suitable RCD / GFCI devices where required by local code. Never use a cable with exposed conductors, melted insulation, severe sheath cuts, or damaged connectors. Cable selection, plug rating, overload protection, and inspection intervals must follow the applicable national electrical safety rules.
