About This Product
Indoor PVC-Insulated, PVC-Sheathed Flexible Cable for Appliances and Light Equipment
PVC Flexible Sheathed Cable is a multi-core flexible cable with copper conductors, PVC core insulation, and an overall PVC sheath. In Chinese product coding it is commonly known as RVV, meaning copper-core PVC insulated PVC sheathed flexible cable. Internationally, closely related harmonised flexible cord designations include H03VV-F for light-duty 300/300V cords and H05VV-F for ordinary-duty 300/500V cords.
This product sits between single-core flexible wire and rubber flexible cable. Compared with RVS twisted wire, RVV adds an outer sheath for better mechanical grouping and protection. Compared with rubber H05RN-F / H07RN-F, it is lighter and lower cost, but not suitable for outdoor weather, high mechanical stress, hot surfaces, oil-heavy workshops, or construction-site abuse unless a special compound and standard are specified.
For global buyers, the safest specification is to write the model and standard together: RVV per the relevant Chinese PVC flexible cable standard, or H05VV-F / H03VV-F per EN 50525-2-11 and IEC 60227-5 where harmonised certification is required. State the voltage grade, conductor size, number of cores, colour code, sheath colour, flame requirement, packing length, plug or cordset requirements, and required test reports before production.
Cable Structure
Flexible Copper Conductors, PVC Insulation, Laid-Up Cores, PVC Outer Sheath
RVV / H05VV-F cable is designed as a flexible indoor cord. It uses fine copper stranding for handling, PVC insulation for each core, a compact multi-core lay-up, and a PVC sheath that keeps the conductors grouped and protected during ordinary service.
-
1
Conductors — Flexible Copper
Fine-stranded annealed copper conductors provide flexibility for appliance cords, internal equipment leads, extension cords, and light portable equipment. Class 5 conductor construction is typical for harmonised flexible cords; bare copper is standard, with tinned copper available only when specified.
-
2
Core Insulation — PVC
Each conductor is insulated with PVC compound suitable for the rated voltage and temperature class. Core colours normally follow the destination market: brown / blue / green-yellow for single-phase cords, plus black and grey for three-phase configurations where applicable.
-
3
Core Lay-Up — Round Flexible Cable
Insulated cores are twisted together to maintain a round cable shape and consistent flexibility. Two-core and three-core versions are common for appliance leads; four-core and five-core versions are used for light three-phase equipment and control-plus-power connections.
-
4
Outer Sheath — PVC
The PVC sheath protects the laid-up cores from ordinary indoor handling and keeps the cord neat. Standard colours include black, white, grey, and customer-specific colours. PVC sheath is not the same as rubber or PUR; for outdoor, oil-heavy, low-temperature, or high-abrasion service, choose the correct specialised cable.
Key Features
Economical Flexible Cord With a Protective PVC Sheath
PVC flexible sheathed cable is selected when the application needs a neat, flexible, sheathed multi-core cord for indoor use, but does not need rubber weather resistance, metallic screening, armour, or high-flex drag-chain performance.
Flexible for Everyday Cord Use
Fine-stranded copper conductors make the cable easy to route, coil, and terminate in appliances, office equipment, lighting, and small indoor equipment. It handles normal cord movement but is not a drag-chain or robotic cable.
Outer Sheath Adds Practical Protection
Compared with loose single wires or RVS twisted wire, RVV adds a PVC sheath that keeps cores together and protects them from ordinary indoor abrasion and handling. It is easier to pull and manage as one cable assembly.
300/300V and 300/500V Options
H03VV-F covers light-duty 300/300V flexible cords, while H05VV-F covers ordinary-duty 300/500V cords. RVV ranges should be checked by datasheet because rated voltage and conductor size depend on the specified standard.
Global Cord Standards Available
For Europe and many export markets, specify H03VV-F or H05VV-F per EN 50525-2-11 / IEC 60227-5. For China-oriented supply, specify RVV and the applicable GB/T or JB/T requirement. Certification marks must be confirmed before quotation.
Lower Cost Than Rubber Cable
PVC construction is economical for indoor cords. It should not be sold as a replacement for H05RN-F or H07RN-F where oil, weather, abrasion, or heavy-duty site service is required.
OEM Cordset Friendly
Cable can be supplied in coils, reels, or drums for cordset production, with custom sheath colour, printing, metre marking, and packing labels. Plug, connector, and moulded cordset projects can be quoted separately where required.
How to Choose
Six Decisions Before Ordering PVC Flexible Sheathed Cable
The main selection question is whether indoor PVC sheathed flexible cable is enough. If the cord will see outdoor weather, oils, construction-site abuse, or repeated machine motion, choose a more specialised cable family.
Choose RVV, H03VV-F, or H05VV-F
RVV is the common Chinese-style PVC flexible sheathed cable. H03VV-F is light-duty 300/300V. H05VV-F is ordinary-duty 300/500V and is the better choice for many indoor appliance and equipment cords where harmonised European documentation is required.
Confirm the voltage and duty level
Use 300/300V cords only for light-duty applications that allow that rating. Use 300/500V H05VV-F where ordinary-duty indoor equipment cords are required. Do not use PVC flexible cords for higher voltage feeders or harsh industrial environments unless the cable is specifically designed for that service.
Select core count and conductor size
Two-core versions suit Class II double-insulated equipment. Three-core versions include protective earth for Class I appliances. Four-core and five-core versions are used for light three-phase equipment. Select conductor size by current, voltage drop, plug rating, temperature, and destination-market standard.
Match colour code and sheath colour
For export cordsets, core colours should match destination rules, commonly brown, blue, and green-yellow for single-phase earthed cords. Sheath colours such as black, white, grey, orange, or custom OEM colours should be specified before production.
Check the environment honestly
Standard PVC sheathed flexible cable is mainly for indoor dry or moderately damp locations. For outdoor UV, cold bending, oil exposure, hot equipment, abrasion, construction sites, or garden tools, specify rubber H05RN-F / H07RN-F, PUR, oil-resistant, or other purpose-built cable instead.
State documents and packing
Specify required standards, HAR or other marks, flame test, RoHS / REACH, factory test report, sheath printing, coil length, drum length, carton packing, and pallet labels. For OEM cordsets, confirm cutting length and plug or connector requirements separately.
Applications
Where PVC Flexible Sheathed Cable Works Best
RVV / H05VV-F is an indoor flexible cord for ordinary-duty equipment. It should be selected where the cable needs a sheath and flexibility, but where rubber-grade weather resistance or heavy-duty mechanical protection is not required.

Household and Office Appliances
Power cords for small indoor appliances, office machines, displays, chargers, light-duty equipment, and other products where a flexible PVC sheathed cord is accepted by the product standard.

Light Portable Equipment
Indoor fans, small pumps, lamps, audio equipment, control boxes, power supplies, and mobile indoor equipment can use RVV or H05VV-F when load current and environment are suitable.

Indoor Extension Cords
PVC flexible sheathed cable is used in indoor extension cordsets and reel leads where national plug, socket, current rating, and safety standards allow PVC sheathed flexible cords.

OEM Cordset Manufacturing
Bulk RVV / H05VV-F can be supplied for cutting, stripping, crimping, moulded plug production, connector assembly, and private-label indoor cordset manufacturing.
Not appropriate for: Outdoor permanent exposure, construction-site power, garden tools, welding, VFD motor output, continuous drag-chain motion, high-temperature appliances, heavy oil exposure, direct burial, fire-survival circuits, or any application requiring rubber, PUR, LSZH, armoured, screened, or heat-resistant cable construction.
Technical Data
RVV / H03VV-F / H05VV-F Selection Reference
The table below is a specification guide. Exact conductor construction, insulation thickness, outside diameter, weight, current rating, and bend radius must follow the requested standard and final datasheet.
| Item | Typical Specification | Engineering Note |
|---|---|---|
| Main models | RVV, H03VV-F, H05VV-F | Use the designation required by the destination market and approval system. |
| Rated voltage | H03VV-F: 300/300V; H05VV-F: 300/500V | RVV voltage rating depends on the specified standard and datasheet. |
| Conductor | Flexible stranded copper | Class 5 conductor is typical for harmonised flexible cords. |
| Core count | 2, 3, 4, 5 cores common | 2-core for Class II equipment; 3-core with protective earth for Class I equipment. |
| Cross-section | 0.5 to 2.5 mm² common; larger by range | Select by current, plug rating, voltage drop, and product standard. |
| Insulation | PVC | Temperature rating and flame behaviour depend on compound and standard. |
| Outer sheath | PVC | Not equivalent to rubber, PUR, LSZH, or heat-resistant sheath. |
| Screen / armour | None in standard RVV / VV-F cords | For screening or armour, choose a different cable family. |
| Standards | EN 50525-2-11, IEC 60227-5, 60227 IEC 52 / 53, Chinese RVV standards | Specify exact certification and required marking before production. |
| Packaging | 100 m coils, reels, drums, cartons, or OEM cut lengths | Cordset projects can include cutting, stripping, connectors, or plug moulding. |
H03VV-F corresponds to light PVC sheathed flexible cords and H05VV-F to ordinary PVC sheathed flexible cords in the harmonised system. RVV is a broader Chinese-style designation, so voltage rating, construction, and approval must be confirmed from the actual datasheet.
For outdoor, high-abrasion, low-temperature, oil-exposed, or construction-site use, specify a rubber or specialised cable rather than standard PVC flexible sheathed cable.
Comparison
Choosing Between RVV, RVS, RVVP, and Rubber Flexible Cable
These cable names are often mixed up because all can be flexible. The difference is sheath, screen, and service environment.
| Attribute | RVV / PVC Flexible Sheathed | RVS / Twisted Wire | RVVP / Shielded PVC Flexible | Rubber Flexible Cable |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Construction | PVC insulated, PVC sheathed flexible cable | Twisted PVC insulated wires, usually no sheath | PVC flexible cable with screen | Rubber insulation and sheath |
| Best use | Indoor appliance and equipment cords | Protected alarm, lighting, and connection wires | Low-level signal/control wiring needing screen | Outdoor, heavy-duty, weather-resistant portable power |
| Outer sheath | Yes, PVC | No | Yes, PVC | Yes, rubber |
| Screen | No | No | Yes | Usually no unless EMC type |
| Do not choose when | Outdoor harsh service or screening is needed | Sheath protection is required | Power cord robustness is the main need | Low-cost indoor light cord is sufficient |
When to choose RVV / H05VV-F
Choose this product for indoor flexible cords where a PVC sheath is required, the environment is moderate, and the circuit does not need screening, armour, or rubber-grade weather resistance.
When to choose another family
Use RVS for unsheathed twisted wiring, RVVP for screened low-level circuits, H05RN-F / H07RN-F for outdoor rubber cords, LSZH cable for low-smoke building requirements, and heat-resistant silicone cable near hot equipment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Common Questions From Appliance and Cordset Buyers
Is RVV the same as H05VV-F?
They are related but not automatically identical. RVV is a Chinese-style designation for PVC insulated PVC sheathed flexible cable. H05VV-F is a harmonised ordinary-duty PVC sheathed flexible cord designation, normally 300/500V, under EN 50525-2-11 / IEC 60227-5. Use H05VV-F when harmonised European documentation or marking is required.
When should I choose H03VV-F instead?
H03VV-F is the light-duty 300/300V version and is used for lighter appliance and indoor cord applications where that rating is permitted. H05VV-F is the ordinary-duty 300/500V version and is more appropriate for many general indoor equipment cords.
Can PVC flexible sheathed cable be used outdoors?
Standard RVV / H05VV-F is mainly for indoor use and should not be treated as weather-resistant outdoor cable. For outdoor portable equipment, garden tools, construction sites, or wet locations, specify rubber H05RN-F / H07RN-F or another approved outdoor cable type.
Is it suitable for power tools?
For light indoor equipment, PVC flexible sheathed cable may be acceptable if the product standard allows it. For professional power tools, outdoor tools, or equipment exposed to abrasion and oil, rubber cable such as H05RN-F or H07RN-F is usually the safer specification.
Can it replace RVVP shielded cable?
No, not where shielding is required. RVV / H05VV-F has no metallic screen. If the circuit is interference-sensitive, specify RVVP or another screened control/signal cable and define the shield termination method.
What information should I send for quotation?
Send model, voltage grade, core count, conductor size, colour code, sheath colour, required standard and certification, coil or drum length, total quantity, destination country, and whether you need cable only, cut lengths, plug cordsets, or moulded assemblies.
Installation & Handling Tips
Six Practices for Reliable PVC Flexible Cord Use
PVC flexible sheathed cable is reliable when used within its intended indoor duty range. Most failures come from exposing it to environments that should have used rubber, PUR, LSZH, screened, or heat-resistant cable.
Use indoors unless rated otherwise
Standard PVC sheath is not built for long-term UV, weather, standing water, or rough outdoor handling. For outdoor or wet duty, select a cable family that is approved for that environment.
Respect plug and appliance ratings
Conductor size must match the appliance current, plug rating, fuse, operating temperature, and product standard. Do not size only by appearance or by matching an old cord diameter.
Avoid heat and oil exposure
PVC can harden, soften, or crack when exposed to unsuitable oils, plasticisers, or hot surfaces. Use heat-resistant silicone, rubber, PUR, or oil-resistant cables when the appliance environment requires them.
Use strain relief at entries
Appliance and equipment entries need cord grips, bushings, or moulded strain relief so pulling force is not transferred to conductor terminations.
Do not use as a drag-chain cable
Normal RVV / H05VV-F is flexible, but not designed for repeated guided motion. For moving axes or cable chains, specify a high-flex chain cable with tested cycle life.
Test finished cordsets
For OEM cordsets, test continuity, polarity, earth continuity, insulation resistance, plug wiring, sheath marking, and strain relief after cutting and assembly. Cable compliance alone does not prove a finished cordset is compliant.
Safety note: PVC flexible sheathed cable must be selected according to the appliance standard, plug standard, national wiring rules, and end-use environment. Do not substitute it for rubber, screened, armoured, fire-rated, heat-resistant, or outdoor cable where those functions are required.
